October 17, 2016 – By all accounts the Lincoln VFW Post #1756 did a brisk business on Saturday during their annual chicken dinner and raffle fundraiser for Land of Lincoln Honor Flight. Local businesses and individuals donated wide variety items for raffle, such a unique USA stepping stone, an oil change from Neal Tire, and a decorative curio cabinet from Jake's Furnishings. The raffle netted $1450 for Honor Flight, exceeding last year's donation of $1197.

Land of Lincoln Honor Flight is a non-profit organization that flies veterans roundtrip to Washington D.C. free of charge to see their war memorials and be honored for their service.

Joan Bortolon, current president Land of Lincoln Honor Flight, was in attendance. She said she originally got involved with Land of Lincoln Honor Flight through her friend, one of the founders of Honor Flight. "I lost my father in 2004. He was a WWII Veteran. I wasn't able to get my father to his memorial, so I'd like to get somebody's father there–and now, I want to get everybody's father there. They're all heroes."
